Sample Packing List
This is what Matt’s planning to bring!
Bicycle Loadout
Only listing the relevant parts to the trip here:
- Tyres: Pinarello Cinturato High Performance M 45mm, ran tubeless.
- Bar Tape: TBD, but something thick and cushy
- Bottles: Decathlon 1L bottles x 2, Nalgene 1.5L bottles x 2
Lights
- Considering Fork Mounts for extra lights:
- Restrap Bolt-On Light Mount
- PDW Light Nug Light Mount for Eyelets
- Probably unnecessary…
- Handlebar Light: Bontrager Ion Pro RT
- 1300 Lumen, decent runtime. Will likely bring two, one as a spare.
- Rear Light: Garmin Varia 515
- Bontrager Ion 200 RT as a spare.
- Camp Light: TBD
- Tent Light: Nitecore Tube V2.0 55 Lumen LED USB Rechargeable
- Head Torch: Knog Quokka
- USB-A rechargeable, lightweight, has red-light mode for not disturbing other campers.
Bikepacking Bags
Front Handlebar Bag
Swift Industries’ Catalyst Pack
5L bicycle bag that attaches to handlebars or the saddle.
Blocks front light, so using a Velo Orange Handlebar Accessory Mount to raise the light and get clearance.
Saddle Bag
Bontrager Adventure Saddle Bag
9L saddle bag that attaches to seat post and saddle clamps.
ISSUE: Bag Swaying
Possible solutions: XTOURING Stabilizer Anti Sway
Pannier Rack
Bontrager BackRack Deluxe MIK + Ortlieb Back Roller Pro 20L
Can’t run this and a saddle bag. I don’t really want to use a rack, but if I can’t fit everything in the smaller saddle bag this might be the only way forward. I’d prefer not to buy a new rack or bags either - spent enough on these items already.
Frame Bag
Bontrager Adventure Boss Bag
5L frame bag, with dimensions matched to my Checkpoint ALR 5 Gen 2, Size 58. Leaves enough space for two side-loading bottle cages that fit 1L bidons.
Top Tube
Bontrager Adventure Top Tube Bag
0.8L top tube bag. Does not extend all the way to the seatpost.
Bottom Tube Mount
Tailfin Mini Cage
Should support a single drink bottle.
Front Fork
Mount: Tailfin Cargo Cage Large x 2
Sizing was chosen based on promo shots for the dry bags I selected - Sea to Summit were using them so I had a sense of scale/fit.
Drybags: Sea to Summit Evac Bikepack Dry Bag Set
3.7L capacity: 30 × 14 × 11 cm, has straps for securing to cargo cages
Straps
- Nylon Bungee Cords
- Have parts, can make as needed.
- Grunt Versa Straps
- Need to order more. Have some from Bunnings already. Can daisy chain them.
- Austere 3/4" Coyote Cam Strap
- Won them from RideWithGPS. Would like to use them sometime!
